Moving and Running . . . what else do I do?

Yes, we made our move back to Utah for the Summer. This is just a picture of our AZ apartment getting all boxed up once again. I feel like a lot of the past 2 years has been a lot of packing and unpacking. We decided to leave most of our belongings in AZ because we will be returning soon.

I already miss my Arizona Friends and Family. My calling as the YW Beehive Adviser was very hard to give up. I will be dropping off Cookies to the Bishop when I get back ;)

As you can see I have been a little occupied putting things together here in UT and I still feel I am far from finishing. But I had to post a crazy/cute thing for my mother and father in law. I want to let them know how amazing, and at the same time, strong headed their son is. To train for this marathon I have to run long runs every other week. Last Wednesday was a 14 miler and I wanted Joseph to ride his bike or long board alongside me because I didn't have my parents to run with. I am not sure when, but he decided he wanted to run it with me. I would be running from the mouth of the canyon till Vivian Park and then back down. This is just shy of 14 miles. Joseph and I started off strong and he explained to me he would try to keep up for the first couple of miles and then turn around to maybe fish while he waited. He kept up for the first mile or so and then I went on ahead. 7 miles in I finally got to vivian park to turn around. After I had turned around and ran for a mile or so I ran into Joseph. Honestly shocked, I gave him a hug and told him to turn around and finish up with me. He shook his head catching his breath and told me he wanted to run the whole 14. He hasn't run more than 2 miles since we were married so I was nervous for him. His knees weren't hurting, which was my biggest concern. So he seemed to be doing well.
I know Joseph is always full of surprises, but sometimes I am amazed by the surprise. I can't believe he really did it. I finished up at 107 minutes and ran up to the gas station to buy us some gatorades. After I stretched a little I ran up the trail to meet Joseph with the drinks, he was a lot closer than I thought. He drank a little and said he wanted to keep running till he was done. He was so determined. It was so fun to have him come on the run with me.
Yes he was definitely feeling it over the next few days, but Friday he told me he loved how he felt. I was so happy to hear that! Of course I got extremely excited and began thinking of races we could train for. And i know he will be faster than me in no time, so I could work on speed work to try and keep up with him. He quickly saw my excitement and clarified that he still thinks running marathons is crazy and said he would never run one. "Oh . . ." a little disappointed.

I guess we'll see. . .

  1. That is quite a run! In my glory days, I used to run up to Canyon Glen & back (5 miles round trip) and felt really good about that...now, not so much. Way to go! I wish I was training for a marathon. So glad you guys are here for the summer!
